Overall Objectives:
-Develop a media plan, including building a network of relations with the most influential media outlets, whether local, Arab or international and implementation of the plan in coordination with the BNC Secretariat, according to the priorities identified by it.
-Coordinate the BNC’s oral and written communication (including press releases and news items, in Arabic and English) with the media to increase and enhance coverage of the BDS movement in general, and the BNC in particular, and to ensure that the messages, principles and positions of the BNC are accurately and widely reflected in local, regional and international media coverage.
-Assist in the production of audiovisual and written communication materials, including videos and inforgraphics, for use by the BNC and the global BDS movement.
Specific tasks:
1-Developing and implementing a comprehensive media strategy geared towards securing regular, accurate, well-referenced and positive media coverage -- in Arabic, English and other languages -- of the BDS movement’s campaigns, achievements and views worldwide, and pitching story ideas for articles and opinion columns in the media, including social media, prioritizing mainstream outlet.
2-Drafting press releases and news items, in Arabic and English, based on information and guidance from the BNC Secretariat and in coordination with the General Coordinator, to cover the most important developments and positions of the BDS movement and enhance the BNC’s status and media image as the leader and reference for the global BDS movement.
3-Seeking and coordinating media opportunities for BNC members and representatives, whether through interviews, opinion columns or media-related speaking engagements, to spread the reach of the BDS movement and the BNC.
4-Assisting in the design and implementation of an efficient and accurate mechanism for responding to media inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
5-Building strong professional relationships with journalists and media professionals representing a wide range of the most influential and mainstream local and international media outlets, especially wire services, creating an up-to-date contact list (mobile phone, email, social media account) for media professionals and news agencies, and building a database of BDS media coverage.
6-Supporting BNC member entities’ BDS-related media work, by suggesting media ideas to them and assisting them in producing their own output (press releases, news items, etc.), in Arabic and English.
7-Producing professional BDS media kits to help journalists in covering the BDS movement in the most accurate and positive manner.
8-Managing and assisting in updating the BNC electronic sites (website, social media, etc.).
9-Supporting the production of written materials, such as newsletters and stories for websites and blogs, and producing, or delegating the production of, photos, videos and graphic designs (infographics) to support the communication objectives of the BNC.
10-Tracking/monitoring BDS-related developments in local, regional and international media, archiving them and summarizing them for the BNC.
11-Contributing to the strategic development of the BNC by ensuring that media and communication are taken into consideration and suggesting media messaging.
Personal Qualifications: First:
Required Qualifications
a-A minimum of three years of professional experience in media coordination or production (including in English-language media outlets).
b-Advanced oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic, including the ability to deliver a series of complex ideas in a simple, accurate, well-referenced, accessible manner.
c-Distinguished organizational skills, including working well under pressure, independently prioritizing tasks, multi-tasking and meeting deadlines.
d-Clear understanding of the realities and challenges faced in the international media’s coverage of the question of Palestine and of opportunities to overcome hurdles.
e-Familiarity with what makes a news item or story relevant and interesting for journalists and producers, particularly in mainstream media outlets.
f-Distinguished inter-personal skills, including the ability to build the necessary synergies with the BNC (and its professional staff, most importantly) and to build strong and useful professional relationships with international and local journalists and media professionals.
g-Commitment to BDS guidelines, including the anti-normalization guidelines.
Second: Preferred Qualifications
a-Experience in the global BDS movement.
b-Experience in the creation or use of publications for campaigns, such as articles, brochures, reports, blogs and/or websites.
c-Experience in the use of websites and means of social communication in organizing campaigns.
d-Experience in public speaking.
e-Experience in organizing press conferences or any similar events.
f-Has contacts with journalists and media representatives in Palestine.
